Planting season, and start of Market Season

We are in the throes of planting season!  We have moved everything out of the rented greenhouse and onto our lawn, so the race is on to plant everything before the transplants get too leggy and the flats sitting on the ground kill the grass!

Just got the cucumbers and squash transplants in the ground this week.  Next, I'll be putting in eggplant and tomato plants, pumpkins, herbs, and sunflowers, and starting the next crop of everything else  (lettuce, squash, cukes...).  The first set of sweet corn goes in next week.  We got more organic russet potatoes to fill in the missing spaces in the potatoes that are already coming up.  We've also bought some organic sweet potatoes and will be trying to grow our own slips this year.  The planting area for winter squash this year at our neighbor Tony's place has been greatly expanded, so we should have even more butternut this fall compared to last year!  We'll also be planting a fair amount of acorn squash this year.  All that winter squash goes in the ground in the next week or two.  Then there's the official cut flower garden we're attempting as well...

We hope to see everyone out at the Flat Rock Tailgate Market on opening day next Thursday.  We've got head lettuce and salad mix, and we'll see what else is ready too.  Shiitake mushrooms perhaps, and rhubarb.  We've also got some hanging baskets with strawberry plants just starting to flower, and we still have apple trees to bring if anyone would like delivery to the market (  http://fcfn.blogspot.com/2009/03/apple-trees-for-sale.html ).

See you soon!

Monday Market Changes

We're moving!  Our Monday afternoon market is moving from the Garden Center to the Hendersonville Food Co-Op.  We are looking foward to being a part of this great new group.

The market's opening day will be June 1st (times still being decided).   Hope to see  you there!

P.S. Still have some apple trees left!
